Refurbished Class 116 DMU set C331 (W51132 and presumably 59034 + 51145) thought to be taken in Swindon Works - date unknown. Paul Redmond.
The Swindon Works 'Con Yard' on 5th October 1980 contained a Derby Works 'class 125/2' diesel hydraulic multiple unit, 'motor brake second' E51159, ex-Stratford depot, cannibalised for spares, and former GW steam loco tenders presumably used as mobile water storage at the works or elsewhere. Freshly painted DMUs in Swindon Works on 20 September 1982. There seems to be plenty of mechanical work underway, note the large extractors above the vehicle ends allowing the vehicles to be run without creating a smoke filled shed. There are plenty of mechanical parts up the centre including air receivers, heaters, starter motors, a radiator and board with a variety of gaskets. Keith Miller.
A Class 120 repaint at Swindon Works in the summer of 1983. The BR logo and number are applied before painting (as was the white lines), these vinyl stickers are supplied with a masking layer which is removed after painting. The number appears to be M51578 or M51573 - although both of these were oval buffered vehicles? fgrsimon.
Up in the air is Class 127 centre car M59645 in what appears to be Swindon Works. Class 117 51352 on the right was painted into blue/grey in 1983, so probably taken around then. Note the two AEC 220 engines on the floor on the left. Stuart Mackay Collection.
